Broken Finger?

I think I've gone and done it again: injured myself and not had a clue about it!

When I fell off Guinnes my left hand hit the top plank of the fence at the finger joints, just as you would knock at a door. At the time it hurt: I knew it was going to bruise and generally be a pain in the arse. The graze on the right hand side of my middle finger also stung like the dickens, but they always do, as pathetic looking as they are! I'd gotten back on and got back to jumping courses however - it wasn't any worse than the dull ache of  a bruised knee.

Yesterday however, I noticed how the left side of my middle finger joint had red bump on it. My first thought was that my graze was healing very slowly (this happened 3 weeks ago come tomorrow), then I remembered my graze was on the right side, as my hand had taken the impact from the right to left.  It's not a great photo as it doesn't stand out as much as it does in reality, but it gives some idea nonetheless:

(I can't be bothered to hoke out the transfer cable for my BB, so a link will have to do).

So upon further investigation this lump is solid, it is immobile, and it's quite a bit like the fracture Tom had on his little finger last year! It also follows the direction of impact: the right hand side of the finger took the impact, so if a bone was broken, chipped or fractured, it would be shifted to the left as this is.  My nurse friend Lizzy says I don't need to rush over it as I can move my finger again (it took a few days, but I kept trying to as I needed the use of my left hand, and this is what doctors advise for fractures anyway as it turns out). She says that the worst case scenario would be that it needs rebroken and realigned, but more like it'd be left alone. Apparently it would be a weakness for arthritis however, so it can't be ignored, but it can wait until my next visit. That's not so bad, cos now that I've moved to the city, I have no idea where or how I go about getting Xrayed. I lived 10mins away from the combined GP and minor accidents unit before I moved: everything under one roof! Oh how I miss that...

So, all in all, it looks as if my endorphins have masked another injury. This is not a good evolutionary strategy on any animal's part... it does however marginally soften the blow of having kids one day I suppose, given that birth's meant to be a bitch and all! lol.
